Police are investigating following reports of “racist graffiti” allegedly being sprayed across a road in Acocks Green.
In a post on social media on August 31, Birmingham councillor Majid Mahmood described the reported graffiti in Douglas Road as “absolutely shocking” and praised the council's street cleaning crew for their “rapid response”.
“Hope those involved are apprehended and swift justice follows,” the council's cabinet member for environment added. “There is no place for racism in our city.”
Acocks Green councillor Roger Harmer, who reported the graffiti alongside former councillor John O’Shea, also described it as “appalling” in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
West Midlands Police confirmed earlier today, September 2, that it will be carrying out patrols and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
“We are investigating after graffiti was sprayed across Douglas Road, Acocks Green,” a spokesperson for the force told the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
“We are in contact with the community and will be carrying out patrols in the area.
“The local authority worked quick to have it removed.
“Anyone who can help with our investigation can contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101.”
