CANDIDATES for the upcoming local election on May 5th are all on the campaign trail, and keen to let you know how they will improve your local community. The local election can be your chance to have your say about which party you want to represent you, and what you care about.

Mr Romain took time out to speak with us about his vision for the community in the profile below.

1.What is your full name?

Tyrese Romain, 23 years old.

 2. Where did you grow up, and who was your biggest influence?

I grew up in Erdington, Birmingham

3. What has motivated you to stand as a candidate in the local election?

I have an interest in politics and potentially becoming a politician and this local election gives me the chance to do just that and most importantly make a  difference in an area close to home. I spent a significant amount of time in Castle Vale growing up as my Grandad lived here, so I know the area well and was happy to have the opportunity to represent Castle Vale as your councilor.

 4. How do local politics shape your life?

For residents of Birmingham like me local politics and the decisions of our elected and non elected officials shapes all our lives. Personally   it is important to me that our green spaces are protected, we have good public services like waste collection etc, and that there is necessary investment in our areas.

 5. If you are elected, what changes will you implement?

f elected I will implement the things that are most important to residents. Councillors do have limited powers but I will always fight for what residents need. So far many people have spoken to me about things such as reinforced grass for those who have to park on grass verges, safer street measures and the combating of fly tipping and crime. I will do my very best to implement these things and make a real change. Also, I will keep in contact with residents to ensure their voice is heard by the council.

  6. Why do you think residents should vote in May?

These elections are not about party politics, but about who will work hardest for Castle Vale. It is important residents have good representation and use their vote to elect someone who has and is working hard for them. I’ve a record of getting things done. Over the last year I have secured dozens of new pedestrian dropped kerbs to help elderly residents or residents with pushchairs cross the road, from Prestwick Road to Watton Green, Hedley Croft to Croy Drive and many more locations

I have regularly kept residents updated with the dates of upcoming visits from the mobile household recycling centres, and even helped residents who could not get rubbish there themselves.

I worked with residents to secure new road signs where addresses were not clear, like on School Close. I’ve got dumped rubbish, like on Cranwell Way and Rawlins Croft, cleared.

I have rolled my sleeves up to clean up graffiti, for instance on Innsworth Drive and joined local litter picks as well as carrying out my own clean ups, like on Tangmere Drive and when I cleared up the Filton Croft Playground last year.

I worked with residents to oppose the LTN road closures on Castle Vale and successfully got them removed this year.

I got assurances about the future of Centre Park from the Council, when concerns were raised it may be built on.

I’m campaigning for investment into the Vale, for improvements to our High Street, for the new train station and for cleaner streets and for our bins to be emptied weekly and on time.

Action like this is why people should vote in May.

    7. What is your favourite film?

It is hard to narrow it down to one. I love Kingsmen: The Secret Service and The Wolf's Call.

   8. Can you share a treasured memory?

Performing at the Birmingham Town Hall after the grand reopening is a memory I treasure.

9. Where is your favourite place to relax?

    My bedroom.

10. If you could have one superpower, what would this be?

   Telepathy.
