Switch Radio, Birmingham's community radio station, is proud to announce that it has been awarded The King's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest accolade given to volunteer groups across the UK.
"Receiving The King's Award for Voluntary Service is a tremendous honour for Switch Radio," said Dean Kavanagh, Station Manager at Switch Radio. "This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our volunteers who strive to make a positive impact in our community every day."
The King's Award for Voluntary Service, formerly known as The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, was created in 2002 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee. It honours volunteer groups that provide exceptional service and meets a need for people living in the local community. Awarded groups receive a certificate signed by His Majesty The King and a domed glass crystal, symbolising their significant contributions to society.
"I am delighted that the hard work and commitment of our volunteers to Switch Radio, our community, and our city has been recognised and rewarded with this incredible achievement”, said Stephen Higgs, Head of Programming at Switch Radio.
Switch Radio has previously covered a diverse range of events such as Remembrance Sunday memorials, Birmingham Hippodrome shows, and weekly sporting updates (such as Warwickshire Country Cricket Club’s 2024 T20 Blast). As a result, this has allowed for strong partnerships with major organisations throughout the West Midlands.
The station offers a diverse range of programming, including music, news, talk shows, and cultural content. The station aims to reflect and serve the interests of Birmingham's communities.
Switch Radio remains committed to delivering quality programming and serving as a voice for the people of Birmingham. The station invites community members to tune in and participate in its diverse array of shows and initiatives.
