A taxi business in Erdington has applied for permission to completely revamp its premises on the corner of Chester Road and Sutton Road. The boss of Star Cars and Coaches said its current property is in ‘the lane that time forgot’, surrounded by an area that has been improved in recent years.
The existing building opposite Mcdonald’s at the Yenton junction will not be demolished completely but will undergo significant renovations if planning permission is granted. Plans were lodged with Birmingham City Council on June 13, 2023.
Images show a new glass entrance for customers and a newly tarmacked car park and drive. Star Cars has been operating its private hire business that includes coaches and minibuses since the 1960s and is looking to bring its headquarters into modernity.
Speaking to the LDRS, Star Cars operations manager Martin Walker said: “The company has applied for planning permission to completely upgrade and redevelop the site, to really tidy up the place as the neighbourhood has been improved, and our place just looks like the lane the time forgot.
“Our successful taxi business, trading since the 1960s, and well-loved in the community, really needs a good facelift, and we wanted a lovely place for people to work and visit now we’re out of Covid and things hopefully continue upwards.”
Details of the scheme including the architect’s images are available on the Birmingham planning website for people to comment on until 4 July. Mr Walker said he had received some positive feedback since posting the plans on Facebook.
