Blackeyed Theatre, in association with South Hill Park, presents Teechers Leavers '22 by John Godber and director/producer Adrian McDougall.

A little apprehensive with this production as I was unsure what to expect and having worked in education it was cleverly and comically produced! I did feel the production would suit and be more enjoyed by an audience with working links to education, sadly this may have reflected on some empty seats; however it opens up and transports the wider audience to our own school experiences.

A very simple stage set consisting of several tables and chairs with cast of three, each portraying several varied characters from students to staff; the characters we all remember and reminisce from our own school days. 

The characters of Salty, Hobby and Gail were performed humorously by the talented Michael Ayiotis, Terenia Barlow and Ciara Morris respectively. Each character was overly performed in a sarcastic and comical manner which delighted the audience. How fantastic it was that prior to the production the cast engaged with the audience within the auditorium. 

It was evident that there had been a great deal of time taken researching characters and scenes; scenes which had been choreographed like the school disco! 

The whole production was accompanied by a catchy soundtrack of current hits, dramatic lighting and an ending, that to some brought a tear to the eye! 

I would recommend this - a little escapism and good laugh! A 4/5 star rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A short run but it is touring the country and other dates in the Midlands are available.
