The Verdict

14th - 18th February 2023

The Garrick, Lichfield

The Verdict by Barry Reed, directed by Michael Lunney and adapted for the stage by Margaret May Hobbs absolutely hooked me in right from the onset. A gripping, edge of the seat production and performed spectacularly by the extremely talented Jason Merrells will not disappoint!

An unusual start to this performance with Frank Galvin (Merrells) on stage quietly gathering and sorting papers in the office prior to the theatre lights dimming and the opening scene commencing! A clever and entertaining way of engaging the audience prior to the performance!

The Verdict is set in Boston in late November 1980 with an ingeniously designed stage set comprising of Galvin's office and Meehan's Bar in Act I, and the County of Suffolk Courtroom in Act II set against a Boston city backdrop enveloped in dramatic lighting creating atmospheric scenes!

Merrells is supported by a highly talented cast of actors with an array of shear experience and enthusiasm; with some familiar faces from stage and tv.

A captivating and absorbing courtroom drama with alcoholic and veteran lawyer Frank Galvin refusing an out of court settlement and instead opting to take on a medical establishment in a medical malpractice case, believing negligence at its worst! No one believes he can win, but Galvin believes he can redeem himself in one last case.

Special mention must go to Reanne Farley who plays Donna St Laurent who is a delight to watch as she graces the stage with perfection.

'Perfection' on stage is just one of many words to describe The Verdict.

Highly recommended and a 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating!

Fantastic!
