When election results might be announced

The ballot will take place on Thursday (July 4) and the count will take place overnight

Birmingham will go to the polls in less than two days to decide who their next  representatives in the Houses of Parliament will be.

Voting will take place across the city from 7am to 10pm on Thursday (July 4) with 10 seats being contested in Edgbaston, Erdington, Hall Green and Moseley, Hodge Hill and Solihull North, Ladywood, Northfield, Perry Barr, Selly Oak, Sutton Coldfield and Yardley.

But for those who will be watching the Birmingham results unfold live had better stock up on the coffee as they are in for a long night.

Counting for nine of the 10 constituencies will take place at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Centenary Square, while Sutton will be counted at the Town Hall in Sutton Coldfield.

Birmingham City Council said counting will get underway at around 11pm on Thursday night but no results are expected before midnight.

A first result could come at around 1am but past election counts have seen bleary-eyed candidates waiting to find out if they have been elected or note at 6am on the Friday morning.

Factors such as a poor or huge turnout or the need for recounts in hotly contested seats could have an impact on when results are finally declared.

Voters are reminded they will need to produce photo ID at their local polling stations when they turn up to vote.
